The Do’s and Don’ts Of Creating An Effective Skincare Routine

Skincare Routine: Many, if not all, people love to achieve good-looking skin. The problem, however, is the fact that it’s rather difficult to get started. This is especially true since most are already inundated with various information, routines, and products.

As a tip, it’s always best to start with knowing the dos and don’ts. This way, you can assess these pieces of information once you apply or create your skincare routine. Thus, to help you out, here are the do’s and don’ts of creating an effective skincare routine.

Skincare

Do: Consider Your Skin Type

Before heading to the nearest store or creating a DIY face mask, do remember that the most important step in creating an effective skincare routine is always the first one, which is to consider your skin type. This is because the products you’re going to invest in will be based on your skin type. Hence, buying products that are not suitable for your skin can compromise your skin’s natural balance, which will, in turn, result in breakouts, inflammation, irritation, and premature aging. Not to mention that buying the wrong products will just be a waste of money on your part.

What most people don’t know is that their skin type changes over time. Hence, just because you’ve determined that you have oily skin, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to have oily skin all the time. Rather, your skin type changes due to your hormones. Additionally, your skin type may also be influenced by the seasons. This means that if you have oily skin as a young adult, there’s still a chance that you’ll have dry skin once you hit your mid 30’s. Also, even if you usually have oily skin, it’s common to have dry skin during the winter season.

Do: Invest In The Right Skincare Products

Now that you know your skin type, the next step is, of course, to invest in quality products for the skin type you currently have. Fortunately, the market is filled with different skincare products nowadays. Hence, you won’t have trouble finding the one suitable for your needs.

However, take note that a cheap drugstore brand may be laden with chemicals, which may cause irritation or breakouts. Do remember that just because it’s cheap, it doesn’t mean that it’s no longer effective. For instance, some natural treatments can be cheaper than branded skincare products. This means that if you’re suffering from breakouts, you can opt for natural treatments for acne, helping you save money and assuring you that your product isn’t infused with unwanted chemicals.

Do: Consume Health Food

One’s skincare isn’t limited to applying the right products. Remember: you are what you eat. Be mindful of your diet if you want to have beautiful skin.

If you find you eat junk food, smoke, and consume plenty of alcohol and/or caffeine, then the dream of having smooth skin may be difficult to reach. This is because having those habits may result in skin inflammation, which is the major cause of breakouts and collagen loss. Thus, try to change your diet to foods that are rich in Vitamin A, C, and E, as well as those that have an abundance of antioxidants and beta carotene.

Do: Drink Water

Since your skin technically covers your entire body, this makes it the largest organ. One major factor that every organ need is water. A dehydrated body also means dehydrated skin, which will result in dryness. Thus, to maintain a healthy complexion and help your body flush out unwanted toxins, most of which contribute to breakouts, drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

Don’t: Share Products

Do note that you may not share the skin type with your family and friends. As mentioned earlier, your products must correspond to your skin type. This means that sharing products may not be the ideal practice.

Furthermore, even if you and your friend have the same skin type, still refrain from borrowing or letting them use your products. This is because your friend’s hands may not be clean. And when they dip their hands on your product or use it on their skin, it may compromise the item’s integrity. Thus, your 3 oz. face cream may turn into a 3 oz. bacteria chamber. Surely, you wouldn’t want that.

Don’t: Keep On Touching Your Face

As tempting as it is, especially if you have blemishes or it’s just too scratchy, don’t keep on touching your face. Your hands, as pointed as above, may harbor different types of bacteria from various surfaces. The moment that your hands get in contact with your face, then those nasty bacteria may transfer. Hence, the more you touch your face, the more skin problems will arise.

Talk To Your Doctor

Take note that the best piece of advice when it comes to your skin problems will always come from a healthcare professional. They can tell you about the perfect skincare product for your skin. Talking to a doctor will also help you assess if your conditions are signs and symptoms of something more serious. Hence, to guide you on the right track, talk to a reputable doctor first.
