Low-Cost Bathroom Remodel Ideas

While remodeling a bathroom can add tremendous value to a home, it can also be an expensive undertaking depending on your bathroom size. However, there are several tips and tricks you can do to upgrade your bathroom without draining your bank account. Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Start with Paint

You may be surprised to hear that a simple coat of paint can go a long way. If you’re aiming to boost the appeal of your bathroom, starting with paint can be one of the most sensible and cost-effective things to do. Depending on the style you’re aiming for, you may want to plan a theme such as nautical or spa-like. Or you could stick with color themes such as neutral, bold, or dark.

Paint also allows you to get creative; floral stencils could add a country feel to your bathroom. Conversely, rust or neutral beiges could create a rustic feel. In terms of quality low-budget paint, aim for ones that are washable and moisture and steam-resistant, as they should prevent mold from forming.

Get Smart with Tiles

Like paint, tiles are another feature that can completely transform the look of the space. However, because tile costs can vary greatly, your best bet is to get smart and opt for cheaper imitation options such as faux-stone ceramic tile backsplashes. Another option is to paint your tiles rather than replace them. Many hardware stores stock specialist tile paint that will allow you to completely change the look and color of your tiles for a fraction of the cost.

Go for Look-a-Like Materials

If you love the look of marble tiles, the good news is that you don’t necessarily have to fork over the cash to buy the real thing. There are plenty of ways to get look-a-like materials that have the appearance of high-end but that are inexpensive to acquire. For example, you could opt for vinyl flooring instead of real wood or choose high-definition laminate countertops instead of luxury granite. Since the cost of bathroom remodel can add up, going for imitation materials can be an excellent way to make the space look spiffy and new.

Touch-Up Areas Rather than Replace

One of the best ways to save on a bathroom upgrade is to touch up key areas rather than replace them. For example, instead of replacing your bathtub, have a go a refinishing it instead. This works well if your bathtub is discolored and scratched and simply needs a few cosmetic repairs it can be easily updated with resurfacing kits and materials.

Touching up can also include updating the grout and silicone edging along with your bathtub, shower, and sink. These areas often become discolored over time, making the area look unsightly. All you need to do is scrape the grout and edging with a knife and then replace it. And voila! Your bathroom can be looking fresh and new — all on a budget.

Declutter & Declutter

Did you know that simply decluttering your bathroom can also make it look modern and new? The beauty of this technique is that it can cost virtually nothing, so long as you have the storage space to do it. Assess your bathroom and find ways to stow away unnecessary items such as toiletries, cosmetics, bathroom accessories, etc. The less clutter you have around the bathroom, the larger the space will feel.

If you don’t have much storage in your cabinets, many DIY shops sell organizers and storage solutions such as baskets or portable containers that can hide away your toiletries.
