Home Date Wines & Drinks Etiquette Tips

Making the decision to have your first home date can be an exciting one, but it’s also important to make sure that you don’t do anything to mess up your chance of moving the relationship forward into something more serious with this first date. Just like you take your time to choose a Moissanite wedding sets of rings, then you should do the same for drinks. By following these wine and drinks etiquette tips during your first home date, you will impress her parents and ensure that she sees you as both mature and responsible, two qualities that are important in deciding whether or not this person is right for a long-term relationship.

Wine

Wine is one of the easiest beverages to pair with a date. Pairing wine with food is trickier, but when it comes to wine on its own you can’t go wrong with red. Some people think that white wines should be served cooler than reds, but this is not the case. Red wines are typically warmer than whites, so they are best served at 60 degrees while whites are better served at 45 degrees or colder. Keep an eye out for your guests’ preferences and serve accordingly!

Beer

Beer, like wine, is a great drink to sip on throughout the night. I don’t recommend going all in on beer because it does have a higher alcohol content than wine and there are other drinks to try as well. However, if you want to order one for yourself or for your date, these are my favorites:

Bud Light, Coors Light, Corona, Stella Artois. If you’re trying to impress someone, grab a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. If they want something lighter, order Pinot Grigio.

Liquor

Liquor is one of the most controversial subjects in this conversation. Wine is a social drink, and many people like to sip a glass while they’re on a date. On the other hand, some people don’t drink at all, or only have one or two drinks on special occasions. If you want to be safe, ask your date what they prefer before ordering something for them.

Soft drinks

Soft drinks are the perfect option for a home date as they can be had at any time of day and with any meal. For a more sophisticated evening, opt for sparkling water or mineral water to accompany your dinner. The best wines to serve on a first date are reds that have been well-aged and robust in flavor such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz.

Coffee and tea

Coffee is best brewed with the coffee maker. If you do not have a coffee maker, then try to brew it in a pot on the stove. You should always use filtered water to brew coffee and allow the water to cool before brewing. For those who drink tea, steeping time can be anywhere from one minute for green tea to four minutes for black tea. Herbal teas require about five minutes of steeping time. Tea should also be steeped in fresh, cold water for best taste and appearance.
