6 Beauty Tips To Keep Your Skin Glowing as an Older Woman

Maintaining healthy and beautiful skin takes a lot of intentional effort, but it can be fun. Keeping a skin care routine is a form of self-care; it is when you can enjoy a steamy shower and gently massage a luxurious hair and body oil into your skin at the end of a long day. However, as you get older, you’ll quickly realize the efforts beauty requires. To keep your skin glowing as you age, incorporate the following tips.

1. Use Sun Protection

While sun exposure offers vitamin D as a necessary element to help boost health and mental well-being, the sun also emits harmful ultraviolet rays. UV rays are known to wreak havoc on the skin. While the rays provide that great tan, they can also encourage and speed up the formation of wrinkles, fine lines and sunspots.

This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to wear sun protection as you’re preparing to face the day. Even on a cloudy, cold winter day, make sure sun protection is a part of your morning skin care routine. Wear at least SPF 30 daily and reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Reapplying sunscreen over makeup is made simple thanks to several SPF spray brands.

Don’t stop at the step of applying SPF to your skin. If you’re a woman who loves gardening or outdoor workouts, consider wearing sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats outside. Find ways to incorporate hats into your regular wardrobe. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the sunshine, but as a woman longing to maintain glowing skin, be conscious of the time spent outside and the sun’s impact on your skin health.

2. Prioritize Sleep Hygiene

Even though a lot of people are learning more about the importance of rest, your sleep hygiene plays a huge role in the quality of your skin. Make sure you’re getting between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Invest in a good mattress and pillows to improve the quality of your sleep.

Restorative sleep can do wonders for the health and buoyancy of your skin. Additionally, invest in silk or satin sheets to make sure that you’re not snagging anything against your skin throughout the night.

The body loses moisture every night through natural processes such as sweating. One of the best ways to restore moisture to your skin is by sleeping with a humidifier on at night. Allowing the humidifier to gently release water into the room encourages moisture to stay on your skin.

3. Use Natural Products

If you’re using products that have been sitting on shelves and are filled with preservatives, know that this will impact your skin and health in the long run. As much as possible, do your best to incorporate lots of natural products and sustainable skin care into your regimen.

Search for products that contain an expiration date. If they don’t have an expiration date, make sure the preservatives they’re using are natural or of high quality. Before you actually purchase a product, read the ingredient list and research the brand; pay attention to the ingredients that come first on the list, and avoid products that contain lots of mineral oils and other potentially harmful chemicals.

4. Incorporate Balanced Nutrition

Great skin care isn’t solely about what you put on your skin. While it’s important to make sure you’re using products with great natural ingredients, be mindful of what you’re putting inside of your body. Your skin is the largest organ you have. Whatever you eat is going to manifest on your face. This is one of the reasons why a lot of people tend to maintain a plant-based diet. Dairy is a known aggravator of acne. The same can be said for sugar and gluten.

Balanced nutrition

It’s up to you to know what works for your skin, as everyone is different. Yet, there are some commonly known nutrients that everyone needs to incorporate into their diet for beautiful skin. Drink lots of water each day. Include a certain amount of omega-3 fatty acid acids in your diet. And consume foods that contain biotin, such as sweet potatoes and sunflower seeds. While supplements can do wonders, try to see how much you can extract from a healthy, balanced diet. Berries, fatty fish, and green, leafy vegetables are very helpful for those trying to maintain healthy skin.

5. Ditch Bad Habits

Pay attention to the habits you tend to lean into in order to cope with various experiences and triggers in your life, as they can impact the health of your skin.

For example, if you smoke when you’re stressed out, get to the root of that issue and find a new outlet. When you feel the urge to smoke, learn some deep-breathing exercises that can help you de-stress. If you drink a lot of alcohol, not only will this hurt your liver, but it also makes the skin look dull and dehydrated. If you’re sleeping in your makeup, at least put some makeup wipes and some reusable cotton rounds by your bed to encourage you to remove the makeup.

While it’s understandably challenging to break bad habits, take small steps toward habitual change. By making small yet consistent actions, you’ll be able to gain and sustain the skin care results you’re looking for.

Adopting New Rituals

When you’re in pursuit of beautiful skin, replacing alcohol with water won’t seem fun at first. However, try your best to make the process meaningful and special. Remind yourself of why you’re putting in the extra effort. When you begin to see the results you desire, it’ll become a lot easier for you to maintain the beauty tips that lead to beautifully glowing skin.
