5 Factors That Affect Acne Breakouts in Teens

If your teen just started suffering from acne, there could be a number of reasons for the new acne breakouts. Scientifically, their skin is producing clogged pores and inflammation, but that doesn’t tell you much about why the acne started occurring or how to prevent it.

Some teens are more acne prone than others, and some may ultimately need clinical treatment by a dermatologist. The vast majority of teens find great success with a high-quality, over the counter teen acne treatment.

1. An Influx of Hormones

As your teen goes through puberty, the buildup of hormones in their system may contribute to their acne. Hormonal acne is caused by an overproduction and build-up of skin oils, which may make the skin look greasy in addition to causing bumps. Using a teen acne treatment that contains salicylic acid will help control oil and kill the bacteria that gets trapped under oil and dead skin to cause acne.

2. Stress, Stress, and More Stress

Stress aggravates many of the inflammatory factors that cause acne. The increased inflammatory response can make acne appear redder and more prominent. Stress can also move the immune system, making it harder for your teen’s body to naturally fight off skin bacteria and slowing the healing process.

3. Sweat and Exercise

Sweat can trigger acne because it will push some of those skin oils onto the skin’s surface to clog pores. Sweat can also trap dirt and other impurities onto the skin, especially if your teen is playing outdoor sports and doesn’t regularly wash their face after the game.

4. Other Products Used on or Near the Face

A common culprit for acne breakouts, especially for girls, is the use of beauty products, on or near the face. You should check to make sure the concealers, hairsprays, and other products your teen is using are non-comedogenic – meaning they won’t clog pores. You should also encourage your teen to use a teen acne treatment that will remove makeup and treat the skin at the end of the day.

5. Teenage Tendency Not to Follow Routines

Your teen may have trouble treating their acne because of the inconsistency of their schedules or propensity to forget or forego thorough skincare routines. For this reason, you’ll want a skin care product that is simple enough for a teen to use regularly. If the product is high quality and feels good without drying the skin, your teen may also be more likely to use it.

6. A Teen Acne Treatment Can Help

Your teen might find their acne hurts their self-esteem or makes them feel like they can’t get rid of it, but if they use a teen acne treatment regularly, follow up with skincare after sweating, and avoid the use of pore-clogging products, they’re very likely to have a good result.

Some acne cleansers on the market are very harsh and even counterproductive to better skin. You can easily research and purchase an acne treatment online with a simple regimen and cleaner ingredients to avoid irritating your teen’s skin with unnecessary chemicals.
